All loads must be applied in such a way that it results in extreme values of shear forces and bending moments. This requires all possible load combinations, and envelopes, to find this critical loading case scenario - especially with traffic loads this is time consuming. With the design tools in DIANA, all load combinations and envelopes will automatically be generated. It is applicable for all load types - including traffic loads consisting of tandem systems (TS) and UDL. All possible lane layouts, in combination with all locations of TS, will be automatically generated. Also load combinations for equation 6-10A and 6-10B, according to Eurocode 0, can be analysed in one calculation. This is more rewarding than using the conservative equation 6-10. In this session you will learn all about this automatic load combination generation in DIANA. Furthermore, you will learn how to average shear forces and moments to optimise your design. Shifting of moments, required by Eurocode, will also be explained. Finally, unity checks will be discussed. These results can be shown in contour plots so that you can easily check if the construction is well designed. The whole workflow of design in DIANA will be demonstrated with an assessment of a bridge deck.
