The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has hit the R40-billion mark in Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme disbursements in efforts to ease the financial difficulties faced by workers during the pandemic-induced lockdown. Dubbed the “magical figure” that government committed to, Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi confirmed on August 14 that government had committed to an extension of the scheme until August 15 as a result of the disaster period change.
