A structural engineer always looks for the most optimized reinforcement design for a structure, this complies with the rules and recommendations of the building codes. These optimizations can be easily checked with the available tools in the DIANA finite element analysis program. In the previous e-learning session (about arching and membrane action), it was explained how nonlinear tools can enhance your design aspects. This webinar will discuss the workflow of creating the reinforcement design of a conventional pile cap structure, using nonlinear finite element analysis according to Eurocode 2 and fib Model Code 2010. In the Eurocode, it is stated that the pile caps may be designed and detailed with the help of strut-and-tie models. Therefore, for our (nonlinear) finite element analysis, we will be using strut-and-tie models to design and check the reinforcement in DIANA.
