Shear and Flexure in Earthquake Resistant Structures

Professor Murty (B.Tech. and M.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, and Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA) teaches nonlinear structural analysis and ductile design of reinforced concrete and steel buildings. His primary R&D interests are nonlinear earthquake behavior of buildings and bridges towards developing displacement-based and energy-based earthquake resistant design. Professor Murty works towards earthquake safety of the built environment in India. He has been associated closely with the National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, to prepare policy, guidelines and implementation strategies. Currently, he is a Member of its Advisory Committee. Also, he is the Chairman of the Earthquake Engineering Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards, and steering a comprehensive upgrade of the earthquake design standards of India. He has authored/co-authored six books on earthquake resistant design and construction.
