Presented By: Jeffery Roesler, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Description: CRCP is known to be high performance pavement type with low maintenance and long service life. It also known to have a higher initial cost relative to other concrete pavement options. This presentation will review some recent findings in four key areas (structural design, materials, support layers, and construction) that can provide a more economical CRCP without sacrificing design life. Specific innovations that will be discussed are active crack control, terminal joint design, internal curing for crack width control and surface durability, macrofibers, transverse post-tensioning, support layers and interfaces, curing, and steel properties (type, spacing, and coating).
