Salga disappointed at deteriorating levels of accountability in municipalities

The South African Local Government Association (Salga) has expressed concern and disappointment at what it calls the “deteriorating levels of accountability” in the recent audit outcomes for local government for the period 2019/20. The recent audit results released by the Auditor-General (AG) reveal that the number of municipalities receiving unqualified audit outcomes has declined from 147 in 2016/17, 123 in 2017/18, and 114 in 2018/19 to a slight year-on-year improvement of 116 in 2019/2020.
