South Africa’s current mining boom is papering over some very serious structural issues that underlie the mining industry as a whole. “Chief amongst those is the slowdown if not disappearance of investment in future capacity, a trend we’ve been seeing for the past ten years,” said Nedbank mining and chemicals senior lead Vusi Mpofu, who was speaking to Mining Weekly in a Teams interview.
