Guided by a value driver tree (VDT) study, an opencast mine increased its earnings massively after employing four additional operators at comparatively negligible cost. At a cost of an additional R150 000 a month, the operation’s earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) soared massively from $634.3-million to R1.1-billion.
